Dhaka, Mar 4- - Prices of daily necessities have remained stable and their supply in the market is satisfactory.

A meeting on supply and stock situation of essentials, held at the Commerce Ministry yesterday, said prices of rice, pulses, onion, salt and edible oil did not increase as usually seen ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Commerce Secretary Suhel Ahmed chaired the meeting that took stocks of the overall price and supply position of food items and construction materials.

Business leaders who attended the meeting said that prices of essentials have not gone up as there was no shortage of supply in the market.

Leaders of cement manufacturers association said the stock of cement was sufficient and production in factories remained uninterrupted.

Since there is no shortfall and supply is satisfactory enough to meet the demand, they called upon the dealers and retailers to sell cement at fair price.

The meeting urged the law enforcing agencies to ensure smooth transportation of sacrificial cattle as well as safety of cattle traders and buyers.

It warned those who obstruct movement of vehicles carrying cattle and demand tolls would be sued under public safety act.

Karwanbazar Traders Association president Pear Uddin, Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association secretary Azizur Rahman, Karwanbazar Wholesale Green Grocery Association president Khan M Shahabuddin, Babubazar-Badamtoli Rice Wholesalers Association general secretary Shahjalal and representatives of various chambers and associations attended the meeting.
